Yes it works with the light switch , for example if the light was on but in dimmed mode , if you turn off the light from the wall switch and turn it back on again it goes to its brighter setting

Q: If there are 2 in one room, can they both be operated by just one remote?

Yes the remote will operate any of the lights I purchased 4 even two in the Sam room , just point it at the light you want to operate
