It tells me it doesn't need batteries but it doesn't tell me is what the dimensions are of it

Although it does not need batteries, the 6 quart size is sufficient to store around 627 AA size batteries if you need to.

is it easy to carry around like as a storage for pens

It is a little big for pens. About the size of a shoe box for sneakers. I am using it to store all of my cords and chargers for my various electronic devices so they don't get lost.
