Welch Allyn Quality and works well for WiscMed Wispr digital Otoscope
This handle is "convertible" in that it can be used two ways. First, with the included rechargeable battery (recharges with built-in wall plug). Second, you can install the included adapter and use standard C cell batteries in the handle in place of the rechargeable battery. I use the handle to power the WiscMed Wispr digital otoscope. In this application, you must use the rechargeable configuration with the included battery. C cell batteries do not have enough energy to power the Wispr.

Power button faulty.
I received the handle and attached the Welch Allyn 25020 3.5V Halogen Otoscope Head. The light is very bright when turned on completely. I really like this. The plug in feature is why I bought this model. The power button seems to depress and turn as it’s designed, but will not turn off completely. So I must take the handle apart when not in use to prevent the battery from draining prematurely.

Clarification on this ad
In answering one of the questions in the question section, I realized that this might be useful info for the review section. This Amazon ad is a little tricky because there are 3 "sub models" to pick from within this ad. You'll see a link "Specification for this product family (See all 3 products)." Just click it and you can choose which handle you want. It took me a little while to figure it out but base your choice on the model number. The model (71000-C) is the one that can convert from a plug in wall charger handle to a battery powered handle. It includes a ring to convert between the two. In the wall charger configuration, the handle uses the Ni-Cad rechargeable battery which is included. When you convert it to a battery powered handle, it uses 2 C batteries.

Works well
I purchased a Welch Allyn set when I was in medical school (long time ago). I recently started doing a moonlighting job and have to supply my own equipment (ugh). The rechargeable battery had given up the ghost a long time ago and 'C' batteries had corroded my old handle. Purchased this handle, attached the otoscope and ophalmoscope from the original set and everything works wonderfully. Now, I have a new rechargeable battery AND this handle has the adapter so that you can also use 'C' batteries (nice back up).

Conveient and much cheaper than the lithium handle
I purchased the C/convertible handle. It is very reasonably priced and convenient to charge. I opted for this over the lighter Lithium powered handle and although it is heavier, it is much more convenient to use in the office and hospital. I've only had to charge it once every 3 weeks or so and it has held its charge well with daily use with about 5 minutes of on time a day. Would recommend to anyone purchasing a Panoptic as an alternate power source to the lithium handle.

Works great -- for Welch Allyn otoscopes
This is the NiCad battery for the otoscope (ear scope). Also you can put in disposable batteries. Works with Welch Allyn 23810 Macro View Otoscope perfectly. They have a more expensive Li-ion battery base also.

I like having the option of the wall charger or putting a battery in. The unit is quite pricey, but definitely professional grade (not like a lof of the Doctor Mom products out there).
