Does Ox-Gard, for all intents and purposes, have a shelf life? (While still in the tube, and/or while in use.)

I don't think it has a shelf life. However due to its composition, it has an issue if left for a long time, say, several months: The more fluid components tend to separate slightly from the thicker material. The symptom is that I take the cap off, and the first material out is a thick but clear oil. Since I have no way of mixing it back in, I have to discard this and squeeze out a few drops at the tip until the darker fully-mixed grease-and-powdered-zinc compound starts coming through again. Other than that, no problem. The powdered zinc is quite fine. I have put some Ox-Gard compound into a syringe, then injected it into rail joints on the tracks of a model railroad layout. It worked great.

The Gardner web site says it has a shelf-life of only 2 years after date of manu. The only # on tube is 111912. Does that mean the manu year is 2012?

I checked the website and could not find a shelf life, only a one year warranty. Likely that is a code for the date, not the actual date. We have had ours for a couple years and the one I got looked like it was 10 years old when I got it, and works fine. This is a very large tube, if you are worried, find a seller with a smaller tube.
