Is the iec 320 connector short? some of the photos make it seem shorter than the plug i am presently using.

You do say how long your present plug is....... This is 1 metre. It is meant to be short so that there is less clutter.

Is the output also 240V?

Yes. If you plug it into a 240V wall outlet, 240V comes out the other end!
