ExtechInstruments DM220 Mini Pocket Multi-Meter with Non-Contact Voltage Detector

I did a lot of research into pocket sized meters before finally deciding on this one and I am very pleased with it.Unlike a lot of slim DMMs, it has a decent rotary switch, which feels positive and has a raised handle, which is much easier to use than the usual flat type. Of course being autoranging you don't need to turn it that much. Nice clear LCD and the readings, although perhaps not quite as accurate as a large Fluke model are certainly good enough for most jobs. The autoranging works well and is quite fast although I noticed that the Ohms reading takes a few seconds to settle. I also like the good quality zipped carry case, with a belt loop and the removable rubber surround, which also covers the back of the unit.My only slight criticism would be that the continuity beep isn't very loud., but overall it does feels like a well made product.Included accessories are the carry case, an instruction leaflet in English and a mini CD with the instructions in PDF format in English, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish.

I love this multimeter. You don't even have to turn it on for the non-contact voltage tester to work. Fantastic for just give you an extra level of confidence before getting down to the nitty gritty. Whip it out of you pocket for a quick pre-check before you start work. Robust and dureable. I used one of these everyday for years. It was worked really hard, bouncing around in my tool box around the county. As soon as it packed up after about five years I went straight out and bought the same one again.Fantastic.Top tip though - a litte expensive here, so get a gold version from a retail park electrical store along the lines of map lins, costs about twenty.
