Loved this book as an addition to my research
I did a lot of research before going to Costa Rica like I do with any trip and this book was an amazing addition to my research. Very easy to read and great information especially when it comes to all the ins and outs of Costa Rica. Side note is I would absolutely recommend this book and visiting Costa Rica.

Pass on new Lonely Planet books. Not the same!
These new Lonely Planet books after selling to red venture lack critical information. They read more like the free travel guides you find at rest stations. But with no addresses, phone numbers, prices, hours of operation, etc. Forcing you to search online for everything anyhow. Lots of white space and pretty pictures though! The descriptions of food locations are vague. Like “Bright and airy, big sandwiches, veg friendly”. Where you used to get well written details about the history, owners, ambiance, and popular staple dishes. The activities are often the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Not off the beaten path. These books lack warnings to visitors that could be helpful.Save your time and find a new tour bookCompany! Or buy a book from the 20-teens and earlier. Then check if locations are still open, and check for new pricing. Here’s an old and new excerpt photo.

Super helpful!
Still a bit of a hanger-oner to the old ways of the LP guides. This helped us narrow down our plans for a week in Costa Rica.

NOT up to Lonely Planet's previous standards!
I've always loved Lonely Planet guide and had 2 previous editions of the Costa Rica book. I'm planning another trip and thought it'd be nice to have updated recommendations but this edition barely even has any! Gone are the succinct and curated mini reviews of multiple b&B's and cafes in each area. This guide feels like something put together by someone who's never even been to most of these towns.I was shocked at how much smaller than the previous editions this book is, and embarrassed that I've been recommending lonely planet to potential visitors. I'll be returning it and hope the 5yr old guide is still relevant.
