Hanamonogatari [Blu-ray]

Description

All five episodes from the Japanese anime based on the light novel from Nisio Isin's 'Monogatari' series. Suruga Kanbaru (voice of Miyuki Sawashiro) is a high school student with a cursed left hand. She learns of a devil who can grant wishes and goes to search for this being, hoping they can cure her hand. However, Suruga discovers that she will have to confront the past to bring about a better future. Review: A Trouble Shared - Hanamonogatari is the one serial from the second season of Monogatari which was not officially part of the Second Season arc. (The same thing happened with Nekomonogatari Black in the First Season.) As such, it can be regarded as an off-shoot story, picking up Suruga Kanbaru's character. You only really need to know the Suruga Monkey arc from the original Bakemonogatari to understand what goes on here. Although visually Hanamonogatari is as inventive as ever (particularly in the later episodes) Suruga is not really an interesting enough protagonist to hold the story together here and we miss the other regular characters. The tone of the story is more sombre and the ending doesn't quite work. This is all the more obvious coming after the other, stronger second season episodes. This isn't a disc to prioritise; indeed, it could be skipped completely. Review: Four Stars - Not the best entry of the series, but still an intriguing arc with beautiful animation.
