Build quality isn’t quite what I expected BUT software and hardware is fantastic!
For quite a while (around 3 months) I’ve been looking for a microphone interface to go with my RODE Podmic but it has to have DSP features such as Compressor , De easer , EQ and noise gate , unfortunately the only ones I could find where the Focusrite Vocaster which does have Compressor but it’s not in depth and only has a single slider , the only other one I could find that matched what I was looking for was the universal audio Apollo twin which costs between £600 - £700! After going for the Rodecaster Duo - initial impressions are , software is fantastic and I love the fact everything can be done on either the device itself or the software. Using audacity to check the noise floor via ACX test with gain set to 58db , below are the results or check pics. - mic muted 58db gain: noise floor = -83.06db - mic unmuted 58db gain: noise floor = -77.72db (untreated room) The DSP functions such as the compressor , noise gate and de esser work very well and it makes your voice sound more full and more present. The only downside I found as soon as I took it out of the box is , the build quality , when I buy high end audio equipment I expect a weighty very nice feeling product that gives me assurance it’ll last years , but unfortunately with the Rodecaster duo , it just doesn’t feel as nice as I’d hoped , if it was all made of metal or mostly metal construction It would be without a doubt the best mic interface I’ve ever had , I just don’t feel £348 of quality to be honest and only time will tell if it lasts. It definitely still deserves 5 stars from me because you can tell allot of effort and dedication has gone into the software and OS , I really appreciate that. If Rode can improve the overall quality of their next device and give it some more weight , I’ll be buying it 100% The headphone amp is very loud and I cannot go above half way without exploding my ear drums , I only have cheap Goodmans headphones that cost about £10 so I cannot comment on the performance of higher powered headphones. I also love the fact you get a quality control certificate in the box that actual humans have checked and signed , that’s a very nice additive and I’ve never seen that before! Mine also came with a EU plug which isn’t great but you just need to buy a IEC C5 cable , AKA a clover leaf 3 pin lead , I got a 1.5m from Amazon for £4.76 and it works fine. Overall I absolutely love this devices software and hardware capabilities , the build quality and weight isn’t bad , I just expected more.

Overkill tool for simple gaming and chatting, great for content creators!
Absolutely love this thing, not using for podcasting or recording, just as a tool for gaming and talking. Sturdy, satisfying buttons and knobs, simple to set up, guides you through it. Plenty of routing options if you need to, 5 pages you can assign custom touch pads, be it voice changer or funny sounds, up to you. But pricy, but I’m sure I’m future proofed with it as there’s app support. One downside - with SD card i, if you record, it may crash/freeze and you’ll have to unplug from power and all the sources to then restart it. Not seen anywhere what brand or type SD card is recommended

Amazing product. I love my duo
The RODEcaster Duo is to me, a perfect product. I love my duo so much, i recommend it to anyone who asks about an audio interface. Its not just plug and go, but if you put a little time into learning about the basics, the amount of functionality is almost endless. Its heavy and well made, not flimsy plastic feeling. Great value for money, as its much more than just a device to plug a microphone into a pc.

Almost perfect but missing some key features
Good start but missing key features. Compression only goes up to 4.5:1 and no higher. Useless for anyone with a higher vocal range or if there might be yelling involved. No instant mute on the outputs. They are clickable, but the click does absolutely nothing. No idea why the hardware can click, but the software does nothing with that click. I am not turning the volume knobs all the way down and up all the time, this is dumb.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Best bit off kit out there for some one who can't afford expensive stuff but wants an expensive experience...would highly recommend to anyone looking for a bit of quality kit that has many different uses .

Wasn’t brand new
I’m not sure what to put here. It was a Rodecaster 2, but I read another review on here that made me keep a lookout when it arrived. The box outer sleeve had a rip in it, the security seal had already been removed, some of the cables had odd looking zip ties & inside the box there was a checklist signed by 2 separate people to verify that the machine was working. The checklist I thought was either a) Something I’d never seen in a brand new package before and a way of showing people at Rode wanted to show their spot checks. Or b) it was some sort of checklist to verify a returned model works and can go back out to be sold. To check this I went on the Rode website and bought one via the links on their site (for £10 less) - via Wex, but I prefer to use Amazon. This box arrived with the sleeve normal, with the tamper seal on it & no checklist inside. So unfortunately although yep it was probably a fully working, perhaps refurbed model, for the amount these things cost that didn’t sit right with me and shouldnt be sold as such. If it wasn’t for the other review on here saying similar I probably would have overlooked this and I think if it had said pre-owned, that’s fine. I’m sure it’s a great machine still with all the checks etc and it could be only happening to a few of them (it does say from the Rode store) but I would have preferred some honesty on the listing after paying full price.

GoXLR upgrade!
Switched from a full size GoXLR and haven’t looked back! Great bit of kit, simple to set up and looks modern compared to the xlr giving your desk setup a much classier look. But most of all the stand out feature has to be the preset for the shure SM7b without tweaks it makes this mic sound how you always tried to get it to sound on a GoXLR.. if you know you know!

Rodecast duo is a solid solution
It’s a solid mini solution for podcasts, but I made a mistake. For £49, with just a little extra spend, you can get the RØDECaster Pro II which comes with more tutorials, greater functionality, and a much easier setup overall.

Unit arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I researched the Duo before buying and this little brother is everything that the big brother Rodecaster Pro II unit is. Only 2 XLR mic inputs vs 4 on the pro, but research it to make sure it's the right one for you. At any rate, it's a powerhouse for those looking to beef up their streaming/podcasting/YouTube game. And it looks awesome too as a bonus.

(Review updated June 4, 2023) When it comes to anything technical about the device: if you can't find it on the site, safe to just assume they won't tell you. Sometimes it would be nice to know just a little more about the internals but each time I ask I'll get a generic response about not being able to provide this information. For a technical product this is a bit of a bummer and I hope that changes and they become more open with developers. This includes innocent things like what Bluetooth codecs it supports. They've built this on the hard work of others who contributed to opensource software and Linux but Rode themselves are currently not so eager to do the same. They have many YouTube videos showing the insides and features, but it's all secretly just self-promotion bragging about how revolutionary everything is and how they've started from the ground up. WITH THAT SAID they're one of few companies that actually pick up a phone and talk to you. So while they may not give me the technical details I want, at least they're not completely hidden from view and impossible to reach. The people you can reach by phone have always been friendly. UPDATES AND BETA FIRMWARE This has a lot going for it as an almost standalone unit. The vendor is still releasing updates regularly, and even without the updates it works right out of the box. However I really wish they would be more open about the technical stuff. To get at most of the fun stuff, you'll need to run the BETA firmware they offer. If you run this, they won't even attempt to support you or accept your bug reports. BLUETOOTH The Bluetooth (when connected to mobile) stays connected but after many hours the actual audio portion of it crashes. Because everything like logs are hidden from view you'll never know why. The only way to get audio back is restarting the device. I've tried several Android phones at this point and all the same issue. The "Disconnect Bluetooth" button on the RCP becomes non-responsive. The audio supported by Bluetooth is basic, low quality and has a lot of latency as you would expect when using the cheapest possible Bluetooth hardware. If you plan to use Bluetooth for mobile audio I would just reconnect it at the start of each day and you're likely fine. For me this is annoying because I forget to do this and it's only a matter of time till the connection drops. If you need better audio from a mobile device just connect it directly using the audio inputs. ACCESSORIES Getting your hands on accessories (like the dust cover) is was nearly impossible in Canada except as a special order item or shipping from cross-boarder. Might I suggest B&H (who I believe also might sell on here). SLIDERS Overall the sliders feel great but I think they missed the boat when omitting motorized sliders like other streaming products. They're ahead of others by featuring nice metal components here but regardless there's something magical about seeing them move on their own. NETWORKED: BUT IT'S NOT FOR YOU It's online for whatever reason (firmware updates supposedly needing this 24/7 online access... what?) but there's zero fun you can have with that. You can't control anything remotely, there's no public API, and basically zero information about it. If you ask about it you'll get a canned response. If you want to do anything using their software it'll take place over USB and proprietary software. LINUX SUPPORT As of Ubuntu 23.04 I was able to get both Main and Chat working with Pulse at the same time without needing extra hardware or hacks. I don't know who to thank for this since Rode won't comment, but a huge thank you to whoever solved this!
