Wish I'd bought one sooner!
I had contemplated at times buying a camera to use whilst cycling, but had never taken the plunge. The main reason being that the majority of bike cameras were of the type built into lights, which were no good to me as I do a lot of off-road cycling and the lights I have are far better (brighter) than any of the light/camera offerings. This left helmet cams which I liked the idea of as they recorded whatever you were looking at, rather than where the bike was facing. I had seen people with a GoPro on their helmets which just looked very unwieldy. After a particular incident, and near miss, with an aggressive driver I decided a camera was a top priority so started looking in earnest. I soon came across the Techalogic DC-1 and what was immediately appealing was that it recorded both front and rear in the same unit. No other camera I could see did this, you needed separate front and rear cameras. My only reservation was that it was a helmet cam, and I didn't want to look like a Teletubbie once the camera was mounted! I took the plunge and ordered it. Once it arrived I familiarised myself with it and it became immediately apparent that they had really thought all the details through - such as the simple way it turns on and off (giving a vibrating feedback so you know it's on and recording) and all the mounting options. Also, details such as having removable screw-on lens covers so that if, for example, a stone gets kicked up and hits the front or rear of the camera it's not the actual lens that is damaged. You buy a spare screw on lens cover easily and cheaply (compared to a damaged lens!). I tested it with the app they recommend (Viidure) and it worked flawlessly, connected easily to the camera and allowing viewing and downloading of the files to my phone. I initially mounted it using the strap option to the side of my helmet, but felt that the weight imbalance would probably drive me nuts on a ride, so attached it to the top of my helmet. Apart from the concern that I now looked like a Teletubbie!, when I sat on my bike in a riding position (head slightly tilting forward) there was a weight imbalance where I could feel the camera pulling the helmet forward. I then realised I was able to attach it still on the top of the helmet but at the back. This solved any weight imbalance and after a quick ride down the cul-de-sac I hardly knew it was even there - plus it had also help resolve the Teletubbie look! Time for a test run! I cycled up to the local shops and back again and reviewed the footage back home. I could make out the number plates nice and clearly of any cars that came the opposite direction or passed by me. The great thing about the dual front/rear capture is that you get two opportunities to catch the number plate of a vehicle! Over the course of the next few days I went on a bike ride each day - camera fitted. I chose to do more road based routes to give the camera a good real world test - seeing how well it recorded number plates and drivers too. The quality of the recording is superb. Colours are great and, after some experimenting, I found that the 1920x1280 30fps was my preferred option over the 1280x720 60fps. I thought the 60fps might have caught plates better, even at lower resolution, but found the higher resolution gave the best result. The camera came into its own on two of these rides where I encountered three separate incidents - two within 10 minutes of each other on the same ride! These were uploaded to my Police force's anti-social driving web site with the conclusion that two of them were sent advisory letters. I doubt this would have happened without the footage. For one of the incidents in particular, if it hadn't been for the rear capture it wouldn't have captured the vast majority of the incident. It is such a crucial feature to have this dual recording. Whilst I was getting to grips with the camera I had need to contact Techalogic Technical Support on a few occasions to clarify some details and check on something regarding the firmware. Each time I spoke with David who was superb, answering all my questions and for one question he said he needed to check with someone else and would get back to me. As promised he called back the following day - as I was on a bike ride ironically! :-) The product is fantastic and backed up by great Customer Support. I wanted to buy a couple of additional accessories and this was dealt with promptly and I received them the next day. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The camera works superbly and it just gives that added assurance that you know you are capturing front and rear as you are cycling along. As well as the obvious use for capturing any incidents, it's also great to play back footage from a ride and see the highlights again - saving any particular bits for posterity.

Overall great product
Excellent product. Purchased a couple of months ago. Purchased previous cameras with mixed success in the past. Stopped wearing a camera some time ago but after two accidents in quick succession decided to get another one. Researched and reviewed lots of different makes and models. This was expensive but the advantage of front and back camera swayed it for me. I use it daily for commutes but also for longer cycle rides at the weekend. The quality is great and very clear on both thd front and back cameras. No problem with the camera setup, operation and connection to the app. My only comments are that the unit is relatively 'heavy' so I opted to mount the camera directly to the helmet rather that using the installation kit, which makes it much lighter. The only other comment is the battery life. It is lower than advertised when on the highest resolution but still better than other previous cameras. I have purchased a backup power bank so will use that for longer trips at the weekend. I haven't tried changing the camera resolution yet...I know that will extend the battery life. Very pleased with the product

Dc-1 versus Dc-2 upgrade - pros and cons
Replaced the DC-1 recently with the DC-2 model. Sturdy and generally reliable. Very viable on your helmet which I find often makes drivers give you more space on the road when they spot it. Positives of Dc-2: longer battery life, better quality video Negatives: DC-1 comes with remote, DC-2 doesn’t. This wasn’t clear before I purchased and I had expected the remote to come in the package. The Dc-1 remote is apparently compatible if you are upgrading. The dc-1 is really good value for money. Feels a bit studier than the dc-2. The waterproof cover on the usb port doesn’t seem as secure on the dc-2. If you only need up to 2 hours of quality front and back video then the dc-1 is sufficient. I went for the dc-2 purely for the battery life to cover longer rides over 2.5 hours. Connecting a power bank whilst recording/riding I find isn’t really practical (and not in bad weather). I did find the battery life started to deteriorate on the dc-1 but only after 12-18months and it still now will do 90mins - I just need to remember to turn off the Bluetooth as this drains it quicker. Lower quality video also increases recording time. I also find turning the auto battery save mode off helps prevent it turning off mid ride. The app used to operate it is good and easy to use once you get used to it.

Have used this regularly for 6 months. The micro usb port broke. The camera is now useless as it cannot be charged. Not a quality product

There's a lot to consider when buying one of these things. For the price, I believe you will not likely find a better product. Aside from the camera, they have multiple mounting options, and there are multiple ways to retrieve the data. You'll need to buy the Micro SD card. It wouldn't hurt to purchase a Micro SD card reader if you don't have one, but you can plug the cable into a PC and pull the files that way. I used the recommended Viidure application. Know that these are MP4 files, so you will need an app that can play MP4's. I've yet to purchase video editing software, but I feel pretty strongly that a good editing software will allow zoom in and the ability to chop out sections of the videos, and do some enhancements. As for the camera, the quality is great. I can't see any distortion from things like camera shake. The mounting device’s are superior. The manual is excellent, but you'll need to play around with the camera to figure out exactly what you want to do with it. There’s a million things to consider. I could go on an on. It's a good buy. I recommend it.

There's a lot of cameras out there but for the quality, functionality, and price, you'll find it extremely difficult to find one equal to and / or better than this. As a motorcycle helmet cam, it's proven to be top notch with easy operation and excellent clarity and durability. For me, an older generation non tech-y guy, the initial setup was sometimes a bit foggy but with a quick e-mail too their customer service, help was rendered quickly and I was up and running. Also, the App for recorded data is useful and easy to navigate via your smartphone. Overall, with the crystal clear simultaneous front and rear coverage, this is a wonderful product for an excellent price and is great for entertainment, but more importantly a necessity for motorcycle safety and can see it being a very useful tool in mishap / legality situations with the occasional / frequent unobservant driver.

I would have preferred being a 4K and surely would be a winner. Instructions lack a bit and would have liked sound without a crackle. I like it a lot for what it is.

Well the sound is just wind noise, but the video quality is excellent. Front and back cameras record everything, that truck tailgating you? on video, that suv runs the red light? on video. See something cool snap a picture with the remote. Also mark a video spot with the remote, locks it in so you don't inadvertently erase it. Adds confidence to your ride, motorist notice it on your helmet and become model citizens, no one wants to be on candid camera. Excellent value for your piece of mind. Easy set up even for the tech challenged like myself. Get on the app and adjust the camera angle to fit you and enjoy.
