Can't put it down
Ok, there's no point writing a review of one of the most influential comics in history, especially when it has been out for almost 40 years, this is a review of the format... and I love it I had some Star Wars books in a similar format, back in the 80s and wore them out from reading them so much and I can honestly say that I look forward making this look just as shabby. I have my pristine copy, signed by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, that's all safely bagged up, this will be the one I read, the one I go camping with, the one I shove in a bag for long trips Chapeau DC, please do more... many MANY more

Really great
DC needs to make more of these! Especially older titles that have been out of print forever, 60s, 70s etc.!

The book arrived in excellent condition. Prospective buyers should note that this particular publication (the DC Compact Comics edition) has a dimension of 8.5" x 5.5" which is about 2/3 the size of your normal graphic novel. The paper quality is good and the book itself is easily portable. More importantly, the text is still readable despite the compact size of the book. Alan Moore's Watchmen has frequently been cited as the greatest graphic novel of all time! I have to agree with this assessment. It is indeed very, very good. But I will not reveal the storyline and spoil the fun for those who have yet to read this great graphic novel. It's also not your typical "trivial" or "superficial" comics ... this is a serious story for mature, discerning readers. I believe Alan Moore wanted to bring across three main points through this story: 1) Is it ethical/right to accept the loss of human lives for the greater good? In other words, can the end justify the means? 2) Can we give complete trust and confidence to our governments and political leaders (or masked heroes in the story)? 3) Heroes are no different from normal people. They also have weaknesses and foibles just like the rest of us. Alan Moore's writing (the fluidity and style), the pacing and flow of the narrative, and the manner in which the dialogue and art panels come together to advance the story are near perfect. I particularly like the way/method the major characters are sleekly introduced in Chapter 1. The artwork is very good for its time (this work was created in the 1980s). Fictitious documents such as excerpts from one of the ex-hero's (Hollis Mason) autobiographical book and various press/magazine articles are inserted at the end of each chapter (except the last one). These serve to flesh out the background of the main story. I find this approach to be quite innovative! If there is one niggle, it is this. There is a comicbook story, "The Tales of the Black Freighter," embedded within the main story. The plot of this pirates tale, revealed towards the end, is farfetched and implausible. It is my opinion that Watchmen, Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", and Neil Gaiman's original Sandman series are all in a league of their own, standing head and shoulders above the rest. Every fan of graphic novels should read this classic by Alan Moore (and own a copy!).

Easily the best comic I’ve ever read. All 12 original issues in one book for this price is a steal.
