Works on mosquitoes, but not with biting flies or midges (no-see-uhms).
As mentioned in other reviews, this device works in keep mosquitoes away. It is extremely durable and easy to charge and use. It did take 2-3 hours to charge, so plan ahead. This repellant does NOT keep away other flying and biting insects, which in New England are black and green flies in the spring and biting midges (no-see-uhms) in the summer. They will find you, especially your legs, ankles, and feet which means you still have to use some type of topical repellant to be safe. The repellant cartridges for the device are pricey and reviews for the non-branded replacement cartridges do not seem too encouraging, so be prepared to pay premium for mosquito control. In my opinion, it is worth it since it makes sitting in my backyard more tolerable.

Great mosquito repeller
Great repeller! I had an older version of thermacell that didn't want to charge anymore so I upgraded to this version. I used it at multiple swim meets this summer and no one in our tent got mosquito bites. It's quick to charge and very easy to swap out the cartridges. I found the cartridges to last about 18-19 hours, just a little shy of what they were rated but I'm ok with that. It works and I didn't get eaten alive which is the reason why I bought it. I highly recommend it since it's easy to carry and set up, and doesn't leave a sticky film on your body or have a strong smell.

Works ok for mosquitoes. Battery is substandard
We like that the product is rechargeable and you don’t have to deal with the propane of the other models. 20 ft radius is about right. Neither is us notice a smell unless you stick it in your nose. As you would expect, Effectiveness diminishes if there is strong wind. Wide stable base. It is new, and 9 hrs seems about right for what we are seeing. 2 cons: the rechargeable versions are more expensive per hour to use because the refills are more expensive per hour than the non rechargeable versions. About 45 cents per hour using the largest and cheapest on Amazon. I think the non- rechargeable are more like mid 30 cents per hour. Second issue, you have to be sure to charge them within a day or two of intended use, or the battery’s starts to drain if just sitting unused on a shelf. Have not tried to find out by how much, but the unit has 3leds that tell you what level the charge is. If we let it set maybe 3-4 days after giving it a full charge, it may show only two leds, and once it showed only one. Just be forewarned. We sometimes hang ours by the strap right outside the door of our RV if bugs are bad. Does a good job of letting us open the door without any bugs getting in.

Finally, Mosquito-Free Bliss!
As someone who lives in Florida, I consider myself an expert on mosquitos – unfortunately. I've tried every spray, candle, and citronella concoction under the sun, usually with disappointing results. But Thermacell? This is the real deal! From the first time I used it, I was blown away. I set it up on my patio, and within minutes, the relentless buzzing and biting just... stopped. It creates a noticeable, invisible shield around you, making outdoor evenings enjoyable again. No more frantic swatting, no more itchy bites, just peaceful relaxation. What truly makes Thermacell a game-changer for me is how easy and unobtrusive it is. There's no sticky spray to deal with, no overpowering scent like with coils or candles, and it's super quiet. You just pop in a mat and a cartridge, click it on, and you're good to go. It's lightweight and portable, so I take it everywhere – to backyard BBQs, on camping trips, and even when I'm just gardening. If you're tired of being mosquito bait, do yourself a massive favor and get a Thermacell. It's worth every single penny for the freedom it gives you. This is one product I'll never be without!

This actually works!
Purchase this last summer after reading through a ton of reviews on different products. The unit is easy to charge, and very easy to replace the cartridges. The cartridges are a bit spendy, however, you can usually get a deal. The absolute best thing about this product is that it works. You can see the little mist coming out the top pretty much as soon as you switch it on. I come from being a tasty option for our Moschino, to an absolute no go area, and I love it. Definitely recommending.

Highly effective (we live in Minnesota)!
The mosquito is familiary referred to as the "state bird" in Minnesota. With lots of lakes and rivers, mosquitos are prevalent during summer months. Often ruining a beautiful summer evening — when we only really have warm weather half of the year, and only a couple months that are really warm.Thermacell is the difference between enjoying the outdoors and slapping yourself silly. I use this USB powered one when I plan to do work outside, especially good for being in the woods on our river property. The patio unit is great for dinners on the deck, as it matches up with the 3-4 hour outside time window.I had an issue with my unit, and customer service promptly resolved the problem for me.Cannot recommend any higher! Just love them.

Check product before use
Worked ok with the amount of time I was able to use it. Product came and the “refill” was damaged and empty, the liquid had spilled into the plastic bag it came in.

USBC would make it 5 stars
The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is the lack of usbc. Took this backpacking in Wisconsin after a flood. We used it every time we stopped or set up camp. We were wearing bug head nets and dousing ourselves in deet to be able to make the hikes. Once we stopped and turned this thing on it was glorious. Doesn't work while moving but super happy with performance at camp/ lunch break
