Instant PC/Laptop upgrade even if you are not gaming
Most people buy such powerful eGPUs for gaming, but it is an instant upgrade even if you are not gaming, particularly for your laptop. Having an eGPU allows your laptop's CPU-integrated GPU to free up itself, which, in turn, allows the CPU itself to boost to much higher frequency and use most of the CPU package power. This has been the exact case for me with MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H. ASUS ROG XG Mobile (2025) allowed the CPU to have a lot more breathing room and the system now feels as if it got a CPU upgrade. Everything is snappier and smoother, particularly when under heavy load with multiple browser tabs open, etc. The trick is to offload as much rendering as possible to eGPU and in Windows there is a specific place where you can adjust preferential GPU for each app: System > Display > Graphic - "Custom settings for applications" section. The 5070 Ti GPU is quite a beast as well for gaming and you will be very satisfied with the performance, particularly as you are getting the best overall treatment in terms of driver support by NVIDIA. Cooling seems quite adequate as well, with the enclosure never getting too hot or noisy. Lastly, if you are an AI developer and want to have access to CUDA, this also allows for that. The overall package is very portable and a perfect piece of equipment to boost your productivity on the go. It is not a cheap product but for those that need it, particularly laptop users who travel, it is a worthy investment.

Must have for asus rog ally owners.
I know nothing about the flow products that use this as well, but its so much fun on the rog ally. The perfect handheld hybrid pc now. Comes equipped with raw power. Most external gpu only take advantage of about 70% of the gpu but with asus you get about 90% with little to no bottleneck. So easy to set up, make sure the ally is up to date then plug the xg up and you have an update that will make you restart and away you go. Anything of this nature is no expensive so you are not saving much money depending on your needs. Becuase to take full advantage you will need a monitor or tv that takes advantage of all that power. The gpu can get load but it stays relatively cool. It's alot cooler than my asus zephyrus g14 ryzen 9 3060 I will tell you that. The Cord is short and you have to bend it a little, I set the gpu up a little higher so I don't have to bend it at the connector end of either poi t of the cable to pro long it. The cable is thick so I trust it. Gives me just enough ports to plug everything in as I like wires and prefer to have as little lag as possible. With the current discount it's so worth it. No longer in production so if you had it on your mind I say do it but I'm an enabler 😁. The stand on the gpu is surprisingly sturdy and can hold up with all my cable tugging on it every way. Still playing with it but first couple hrs of gaming are amazing.

Works as advertised. If you plan to frequently undock your device the process can be annoying
Picked it up for my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme since I've been using it docked as a PC I could take with me. These are hard to find in general so when there was a 4000 series I had to get it. Have only had it for a couple weeks but my thoughts are below. Installation is relatively simple you just need to ensure the connection is SNUG and locks into place. Initial setup the unit would not power on and the RGB fan light didn't illuminate so I was afraid of a bricked unit. But the good old unplug and replug fixed that issue. I do wish the cable to dock your device was a bit longer. Once the device was powered and connected you have to click the XG Mobile icon in the system tray. What's annoying is that the icon FREQUENTLY dissappears. Literally as I am writing this review the icon is missing. Not a problem if you keep your device docked but since I have an ROG Ally, the expectation that I would frequently take the device with me on the go is there. I have not encountered any other issues with the device apart from those mentioned in this review. The fan ramps up when gaming but it is not as loud as I was expecting it to be. The sound level is noticable in a quiet environment but not a problem if you play audio through speakers or use headphones. Haven't tried super intense games but it works very well for what I want to play. Overall if the process of connecting and disconnecting the XG mobile and the cable were a little longer this would be a 5 star review.

Nothing but issues
Had it for about two weeks. Was super excited and worked decent for a day or two without issues. Benchmarks were great and all happy. Spent my last week and a half trying to get the damn thing to work now. Keeps making my x13 go to Blue Screen of death. With constant reboot s. Now, display port isn’t working . But it worked great for a week. Every time I try to update nvidia driver it goes to BSOD. Other issue is you are supposed to got to your windows tray and clock the xg mobile icon to disconnect. Damn icon doesn’t work. I really love my flow x13 but want more power at home. But this not working may be the deal breakers.

I use this for my Xbox Ally X and the performance boost is incredibly meaningful. Over the thunderbolt 4 for the Ally I am able to get H2D ~ 3.35GBPS and D2H ~ 3.71GBPS. This may seem slow, but unless you plan to work with data heavy pipelines or older engines with draw-call churn. Using a few games for reference, I am able to run Hogearts Legacy at over 110 frames on ultra settings, and the same is true for The Outer Worlds. Even under load, this GPU is incredibly silent and is able to maintain stable temperatures well below 75°c. It is very easy to setup and as long as you are smart about product connection you can have your whole system up and running in less than 2 minutes. If you have the ROG flow Z13 paired with the 5090 version of the XG, you can essentially push your mobile station to a near mid-high tier desktop class pc 90% of the time. With future devices likely including pcie 5 bandwidth should meaningfully increase and the power of these devices scales well allowing for future proofing. Would definitely recommend this for who wants power, speed, and great gaming capability anywhere an outlet is available.

Awesome Product
Im going to give this a five star but I'm not factoring in the price, and I'm leaving HID Evolution 3 stars. I have an ASUS Flow Z13 and running Fortnite with 16 gigs allocated to the iGPU, I was getting about 150 FPS. With this eGPU, I'm getting 300 ish running the same ASUS triple OLED displays at 240hz. Of course I was worried about USB4 vs TB5 but just decided to try it to take some load off the eGPU. So far so good. I realize you can build a eGPU for half the cost of this, but seeing as I do work on this computer, I wanted something I was sure would be more stable. I looked into the eGPU thing and I just couldn't find anything that I thought was main stream and stable enough. And I realize between my Flow and the XG Mobile I could have a ridiculous rig but I do travel a bit. HID - I wouldn't have bought from them knowing I was buying from them. Amazon pulled a fast one on me because as I was browsing, the 1299 price from HID Evolution wasn't honored. I've read bad reviews about their policies and as I contacted them for a price match, they told me they markup because Amazon charges them to sell. Fine. But they're return policies are unclear. Your mileage may vary. Overall, there isn't many reviews out on the XG, but so far, I'm liking it.

Disappointing
Disappointing for the price given it was already used. It looks nice, has plenty of extra ports, but the actual gaming experience was NOT worth the price, at all. While the GPU should be quite powerful, it is still a mobile chip and is lacking in power to a true GPU. That being said, it does install very easily and the laptop instantly recognized it when plugged in. I would definitely recommend this but only if priced under $1,000.

A GOOD TOOL TO HAVE
A bit pricey but your paying for portability. Im having a good time with xg 5090 gets everything I need done and more. The ability to play AAA games and everything else at high settings is amazing on the go.
