Cataract surgery means sleeping with an eye shield for the first week or so after surgery - for each eye. After a couple days of feeling like fine hairs, and possibly some skin cells, were being ripped off every time I removed my eye shield, I knew I had to find an alternative. This really did the trick! I felt that the metal shield I was given after surgery fit the contour of my face better and was thrilled to find that it fit inside the frame perfectly, so I was able to use it instead of the plastic one. I would recommend this for any adult who needs an eye shield. Note: this would be too large for a small child, in my opinion.

Product was cheaply produced and did not cover the eye effectively. I cannot even use it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this!

Referring to the photo above, the top shows the strap a shield holder for the purchased shield “system”. The lower left shield was provided my opthamologist. The lower right is the shield purchased.These were intended as backup or replacement for those provided after cataract surgery. I found them to be deficient for the following reasons:1. They are smaller than doctor provided. May be a plus for small faces.2. Their shape is elliptical and do not include the stabilizing tab portion which provides a more secure fit.3. The shield is placed in an elasticized circular ring which is part of a circular strap that wraps around the ear and around the head. I found it easy to dislodge the shield while manipulating the strap.The shield itself is fine. It is clear and appears to be durable.When it comes to protecting my eyes, I am a belt and braces kind of guy. I use the opthamologist-provided shield in combination with the strap. The physician-provided shield is kept in place by clear tape applied from the middle of the forehead, over the shield and then the cheek.The post-op instructions I received indicate that the shield be used for a full week after the surgery.

After the first few days, the pad did not stay in place, came out of holder during the night.
