Maxone 500GB Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive HDD USB 3.0 Compatible with PC, Laptop, Charcoal Grey

Upon receiving the external hard drive, I turned off my internet connection on my test computer, disconnected my ethernet, just in case the drive was flooded with malware, then connected it via the supplied USB cable. The drive comes formatted with exFAT, and is suitable for Windows, Mac, or Linux. I formatted the drive to NTFS for Windows, then encrypted the drive using BitLocker, which is available in Windows 10 Pro. The 465 GB Drive is advertised at 500 GB. But hard drive manufacturers use special software for the drive itself, and that software is called overhead. This is why hard drives are not 500 GB out of the box. Different manufacturers use different types of software that takes up a various amounts of space on the drive. If you're not familiar with Drive technology, you can be easily deceived and return the drive thinking the size is incorrect. But the majority of 500 GB drives are actually 465 GB out of the box. As time goes by, I will update this review in case there's a failure. But as it stands now I'm giving it five stars. The drive is manufactured in China.

500 gigs for only a few dollars . Worth it . I’m using it for steam games . They download slow on external hard drives which I noticed but I figured out how to make them go faster . Plugged it up and the memory instantly popped up and I got to using it . Worth it

It is ok, however, I do not like the cable. It looks like a simple usb to usb but the connection to the hard drive is different. This making it a little extra to find another cable. It's not like I could swap a usb C for another one at a store.

Super lightweight and compact. Holds lots of data. Definitely what I needed to help hold my personal and business files that I don't want to store on my laptop just in case. It works perfectly. No extra downloads needed. Just plug and play.

I'm actually writing this review because I'm online buying ANOTHER one! 😂This is a streamlined, sturdy hard drive. The case is well made and convenient for holding additional items (charging cord, SD cards, whatever)No issues with loading, accessing data, etc.

Apr 1, 2023 11:26 AMI purchased the Maxone 500GB drive and once I put important data on the drive no longer shows the blue led light, which the computer will not read the drive anymore. I tried it on two other computers and it will not read it anymore. I do not want to send this drive back because of the personal data it has on it. I can send you and video showing you the drive don't work anymore, but I am asking from a customer stand point to replace the drive with another. Under Disk Management it is labeled (DISK Unknown, Not Initialized). I can hear the drive spinning, but the blue light doesn’t appear like before, tried two other cable end to this Maxone drive and still no help. I tried to pull the data off this drive with software and it would not work for me, I attempted to Initialize the disk, even tried to rebuild, etc. nothing seems to work. I have a lot of personal data on this drive and do not want to send it back to you, I prefer to destroy the drive myself. I can send you back all the pieces after destruction if that's an option. I am not trying to lose any more money on your product, I even brought third party software to try and delete the data and still that didn't work. So, I am losing more money on my end.
