Very sturdy flashlight

Quality and Durability - Proven Track Record
MagLites are the industry standard for durability. Many Law Enforcement officers carry them and for good reason. They are built to withstand the weather and rough use. They aren't super bright like the noon day sun but they are plenty bright enough. Being former military, I appreciate a good flashlight for a variety of reasons, and I have several including the super bright ones that drain batteries quickly. I bought this particular flash light 5 years ago. With the original batteries it still works fine - note - I know I shouldn't leave batteries in a device that long but it was put away and I forgot about it. An additional benefit is that it is hefty and can be used as a defensive weapon if needed. This flashlight is like having a baseball bat that illuminates. Highly recommended.

Great flashlight. Last legal weapon.

This is a device, not just a flashlight.
I get Maglite because it works and is reliable These flashlights are made well so it is dependable. The flashlight is constructed from aluminum and has a gasket seal. The beam is adjustable. I appreciate the features, and it is easy to hold. It is large, so this is not something to just carry around, but in a vehicle, it works and will be there when you need it.

This is an Awesome Flashlight/Beating Heavy Night Stick!!
For freaking $16 you cannot beat this 4D Maglight! I wanted a 3D Maglight, but at the time it was twice the price as the 4D, it was kinda weird that it was that much more expensive, but I am Very happy I got the 4D Light! Now even though I love all Maglights and everyone else does too.. I gotta give it 4 Stars Because of the actual light they put out.. Everyone that has a Maglite. Or Looking for a Maglight, You Have to buy a Drop In LED to go into your Maglite. You will open your light and feel how big this light is, it is a big size without being Ridiculously Big. This isn't something that you would openly carry at all times or on your person often, but this is something that you could store in your Car or House and you would have a great weapon/ light.. This is a big size but not crazy, it is big enough so that you would be able to actually hurt someone with this light. It is a great size to use as a Baton, and With it's 4D Batteries Installed, it's is No Question that you could bust someone pretty hard, maybe breaking bones or cracking skulls in the process. (Which is all very dangerous, and Very Illegal unless it is self defense, protecting yourself, family, or property..)But, if you are using this as a good big flashlight, you Have to Spend $10-$15 on a Drop in LED Upgrade for the light.. You will Be very happy at the benefit of the $10-$15 LEDs over the stock bulbs..I went ahead and bought a Terralux Drop in LED and I was very Pissed when I found out that it Would Not Fit into my Light... I don't know if it will fit most 3-4D Maglight, and it just wouldn't fit a certain year or model, But it Wouldn't Fit into my 4D MaglightUNTIL, I took a Knife and started Shaving Down slivers of the metal off of the Inner circle Lamp Retaining Cap piece that Screws On Top of the Unit (it screws the bulb unit into the flashlight to hold it in place)(It was a good thing that it was an Easy Fix, It was Just that the little Retaining piece Did Not Fit over a tiny part of the Original Bulb Unit)The New LED Unit is a wider piece overall, So when you Try and Screw it onto the Light, the Hole on Top Was Not Wide Enough to Screw Over the New LED Bulb Unit , But By Shaving the Inner Circle Out for a Little Bit, You Can Make the Hole on the Retaining Cap Piece just big Enough to fit over the New Unit, and It Will Fit Over and Screw it down into the Llight, and it will still be able to fit over the Original Bulb Unit if you ever have to switch back...!!So it's kind of a Quick fix to the Drop In LED, But You Will Be Very Happy When you Screw your Light together and Turn On Your Flashlight, you Will See A HUGE Difference with the New LED Compared to the Original Bulb..So Finally: This 4D Maglight is an Awesome Light, the Weight and Size are Both Pros and Cons.. It is Big And Heavy Enough that You Will Not Carry This Flashlight With You Everywhere, and You Will Not Probably Use This Light as Your Primary Light Either...But..You Will Love This Light And the Amount of Light that You Get When You Upgrade to a New LED, Even as a Weapon for Self Defense, or Home defense, it can be your main flashlight in your home or car but it's just too big to randomly carry it around..get upgraded LEDs for your Maglites and you will Love your Maglites even better!!4 stars, but 5 stars with the Extra Drop in LED...

40 plus
This Mag light is replacing my old Mag Lite I have had for 40 plus years. I also have the minis that keep walking away!! I had another one I bought at the same time, but it walked away 10 years ago. You can depend on this flash lite. They are good on batteries and I have never had to place a bulb. Dropping them doesn't bother them. I need to go back and get another one.

they are built like tanks, waterproof
first off lets start buy stating the most important fact about these first gen mags...people who know maglites do not buy them for their "brightness" but rather there outstanding durability to cost ratio.Mags have earned this reputation since day one thus for this reason alone they have still not changed...why change something that isnt broke?they are built like tanks, waterproof, drop resitant, shock resistant and parts are readly available all over the net.upgrade bulbs,lens,seals,switches...you name it.now another very very important fact that i do not see written about or even mentioned.in the event of a long term power outage these D batteries will prove to be more vital...why? beacause when your batteries die simply replace and you are good to go.if your light sources are rechargable you are screwed unless you have a generator.this was proven in 2008 when hurricane ike made its way to ohio with sustained wind gust of 40-50mph winds, knocking out power for 3 days in my kneck of the woods.not only did i have to replace my D's in my 2 cell and 4 cell but if it wasnt for long term stash of batteries i would of been screwed.my Brothers rechargables went bad after two night, caught off gaurd by the winds he only had half a charge on his tactical super bright pieces of trash...no power to recharge.so my point is if you do not need a super bright rechargable, expensive flashlight dont waste your money.i change the batteries in mine every 6-12 months and they are fine.these are lifetime flashlights.both my 2 cell D's are 18 and 19 years old, sharing vehicle duties, hunting, fishing, dog finding and all around general pupose.they are scratched up and look like they been through heck!that is because they have! over the past 3 years i replaced the old krypton bulbls with LED's and made them virtually new and 3 times more bright.they will never be replaced as there is simply no reason to with parts all over amazon.now my 4 cell first generation was upgraded withn LED and a nice new glass lens and it literally illuminates my whole yard.its a beast, heavy, solid and more light than most any person will ever realisticaly ever need.in fact its so bright and useful it acompanis me on all of my hunting trips for the simple reason of long rang beam and excellent flood illumination in the appalachian foot hills were we roam.let me say this again...the 4 cell even with the old fashion krypton bulb is more than most anyone will ever need! if you live in a city with small lots its will illuminate not only your lot but a four lot area.so the two cells being less light and flood illumination is adequate for 99.9% of the general population.right now we live in a time of excess...people always have to have the latest and greates everything...from new phones,cars,computers...maglite still stays true to the old ways of adequate needs that are durable for a lifetime...thus all these review you are reading.so in short mags are realistic in terms of durability and price.
