Electrical Insulation for Rotating Machines: Design, Evaluation, Aging, Testing, and Repair (IEEE Press Series on Power and Energy Systems)

Electrical Insulation for Rotating Machines by Stone et., al
This is an invaluable reference for instructors, test and reliability engineers, personnel engaged in rotating machine repair and teams engaged in root cause failure analysis. In particular the test methods used to evaluate insulation system materials for aging, and various types of stresses and the historical development of insulation materials is of value in gaining insight into and understanding of how some of the graphs found in IEEE, IEC, NEMA and other standards documents were developed and in particular what their limitations are. Descriptions of failure mechanisms strengthened my knowledge in this area. There are comprehensive summaries and brief descriptions of many on-line and off-line tests and inspections that are helpful in evaluating and monitoring conditions of rotating machines. However, these do not include the the most recent and increasingly popular motor circuit analysis methods nor make any mention of the correlation between on-line and off-line tests that have proven very useful to motor owners in gaining early warning of the onset of problems, which if not attended to, will lead to insulation system failures. Otherwise I believe this text should be in the library of every organization that has substantial numbers of rotating machines in their care.Jack R. Nicholas, Jr., P.E., CMRP, Co-author and Editor of Motor Electrical Predictive Maintenance and Testing 9th Edition

I have met Dr. Greg Stone some time in ...
I have met Dr. Greg Stone some time in early 2015 for course that he conducted about rotary equipment's OLCMs, and after reading this book, I cant stop wondering how this gentleman is and has been one of the pioneers for this science.. if you are interested in generators or motors OLCMs then you don't need to look anywhere else, this all what you need.

Much more expanded than 1st edition
Good easy read. Much more expanded than 1st edition. Still missing some material that I would expect either kept out (know how) or included in the 3rd edition.

Excellent resource for the motor toolkit
I could not have been more pleased with this book. Offers great insight into motor/generator insulation systems and their associated failure modes. The book also includes several chapters dedicated to motor testing (both online/offline & maintenance/acceptance).
