Battery is NOT DOA - Leave in Charger!
I purchased this Nikon EN-EL 18C battery on 2/6/24 and received it on 2/10/24. Original Nikon packaging, obviously new. Like others said, the battery was completely uncharged, dead. Put it into my off-brand side-by-side charger, nothing. No lights. Thought it was DOA, but dug deeper in reviews. Left battery in the charger. Lights came on after an hour. Full charge in 2 hours 30 min. Loaded it in the MB-D18 grip for the D-850. Battery info showed FULL charge and information. Works great!*** UPDATE *** I’ve used this battery for several days in my D850 and it continues to hold a charge, much longer than the off-brand batteries. I liked it so much, I bought a second one which arrived and was charged just like the first one described above. You get what you pay for. A+++++

Couldn't Be Charged But Found A Solution
In the past two weeks I've ordered 3 of these batteries, all of which arrived with no charge, all dated 04-2022 AT. I'd intended to use these in the MB-D18 battery grip for my Nikon D850, and also purchased the Nikon MH-33 charger required for these batteries as we all as the separate EH-7P AC adapter for the charger. All 3 batteries showed rapidly flashing green lights on the MH-33 charger. I tried leaving the batteries on the charger as long as overnight, thinking that it needed time to charge, However, it never registered anything but rapidly flashing green lights, which Nikon, in the documentation for the MH-33 said meant the battery was defective. Thinking the charger was defective I bought a second one, which also failed to charge the EN-EL 18c batteries, showing the same series of rapidly flashing green lights. I tried the calibration button the chargers, to no effect. It's possible that the batteries I received from the 04-2022 AT sequence were dead by the time I received the and so couldn't be charged. As of today, I'm returning for refund both batteries, both chargers, the special and not inexpensive AC adapter for the chargers and both batteries, as well as the special BL5 battery chamber cover for the battery grip.As a long time Nikon user, going back more than 30 years, I've never had any problems with their products, however this has been a time consuming and frustrating experience. Until Nikon comes up with a replacement battery for the MB-D18 grip I'll continue to use the standard EN-EL 15c batteries I'm currently using that have never failed to charge in the years I've been using them.Nikon can, and should do better, since these are expensive high capacity batteries that would be nice to have for the MB-D18 battery grip.UDATE:After doing some additional research, I discovered that the Nikon EN-EL 18c battery has been superseded by the newer EN-EL 18d, which works with the MB-D18 Battery grip for the Nikon d850. After ordering the newer EN-EL 18d, it charged without any problems in the MH-33 charger, and after being fully charged, it works perfectly with the MB-D18 battery grip.My advice, based on my experience. is to forego with EN-EL 18c batteries, and buy the newer EN-EL 18d for the same cost.

Great Battery Once You Get It Charged
I bought a used Nikon D5 that came with an older battery. That battery still works fine but I wanted a spare and the EN-EL18c is the one they currently sell that works with the D5 and the charger that shipped with the D5.Like others have stated, this battery doesn't seem to work right out of the box. Charging it is a bit of a struggle. That's why I give it only 4 stars. I would be nice if it charged and worked right out of the box but mine didn't. I thought it might be defective but after reading online, I found if you charge it and remove it and charge it again over the course of several hours, it will eventually charge up. The camera reads it as 100% new and fully charged. It took about 24 hours to get it to charge but after I did, It works great without issues.I love my D5 and I really like this battery that goes with it. I decided that aftermarket batteries are too much of a risk with these high end cameras. The batteries are expensive but I know they work and if they have issues, they will be covered by the manufacturer. You don't get that with generic batteries. If they brick your camera, you are out of luck.

TOP QUALITY
This Nikon battery is top quality albeit expensive. Lots of charge to it means you don't run out of battery as often as lesser-type batteries.

Improves AF function on D850!
I bought this battery to go with my D850 grip and also converted to CFExpress Card. What a pleasant surprise to experience not only increased frames per second but also the joy of having a faster Auto Focus lock on. My accuracy rate for pictures taken seems to have improved by 20-25% in speed and accuracy. I cannot account for why other than perhaps cleaner voltage power with more energy to run the microprocessor properly. I highly recommend these updates for anyone shooting a D850.
