Jack Devlin, wegen seines Kartenticks auch "Black Jack" genannt, ist Sicherheitsexperte für Personenschutz. Der Ex-US-Marshall wird damit beauftragt, die einzige Tochter eines milliardenschweren Casinobesitzers aus den Fängen russischer Entführer zu befreien. Devlin fährt sämtliche Geschütze auf und es gelingt ihm, die zu allem entschlossenen Kidnapper in einem Kampf zu eliminieren. Jahre später, Devlin hat sich bereits aus seinem Job zurückgezogen, steht Jack einer erneute Herausforderung bevor. Es geht um das Leben der hochdotierten Laufstegprinzessin Cinder James, die von einem hartnäckigen Psychopathen bedrängt wird. Dummerweise kennt der Bösewicht auch die einzige Schwäche seines Gegners: Der "Schwarze Jack" kann kein Weiß sehen. Dieses Mal soll es die härteste Herausforderung seines Lebens werden.

John Woo's Black Jack
Dolph Lundgren was always on of my favourite action stars. He'd already appeared in Rocky 4, Masters of the Universe, Red Scorpion, The Punisher, Dark Angel/I Come in Peace, Cover Up, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Universal Soldier and Army of One/Joshua Tree by the time this hidden gem came along. The really interesting point here is that Black Jack is billed as John Woo's Black Jack. Yes, THE John Woo! Director of Face/Off, M:I 2 etc, etc. Arguably the greatest action director of all time, and he does actually direct this movie (sometimes they trick you by claiming a famous director as an executive producer or something). So how did this one slip under the radar? Answer it was a TV movie! So obviously the production values of Woo's cinimatic films aren't quite there, but this is an absolutely great treat for fans of the actor and director. It's not by any means five star stuff and has some ridiculous moments (like the hero's fear of the colour white)' but the action scenes are superb and a cut above most 90's action.
