Low waste. My pigs love it.
I have tried lots of Timothy Hays 1st 2nd 3rd cuttings, Oxbow, Kaylee, Small Pet Select, Organic Premium, Alfalfa, and this Oat Hay is the least waste followed by the organic premium and 3rd cuttings I have tried. My female guinea pigs love it. I give them both this and Timothy Hay but they love this best. I like the packaging. The other brands that come in a box with no bag are an enormous mess. May be fine if you have animals in a barn but makes a constant mess of my house. No long wait to receive. Pros: Guinea pigs love, low waste, came promptly, reasonable price, cut size is good, not messy, good packaging. Cons: None but a larger size option would be nice.

One of best orchard grasses on the planet!
I've been foster caring rabbits & guinea pigs for over 20 ysr. I've been thru hell & back on the hay circuit. I did my research on this farm. This Co. Is family owned and grows their hays on their own farm. They don't. sub it out to God knows what growers, like Small Pet Select, etc. does I order the 10lb mini bales of 2nd cutting Timothy & Orchard grass. I mixed them together in a large token. My guinea pig heard loves the balance of both mixed together. There's very little waste. At least 75% of rabbit- guinea pig diet requires a good quality hay. Less waste means they're getting proper nutrition & it helps to keep their teeth trim. When you email the farm, they always get back to you forth with. They don't use pesticides/ other sprays on there hey crops. Many hay Cos throw their hay in a box, leaving it vulnerable to rain, snow, etc while it's sitting on front doorsteps getting soaked, moldy & ruined! Not this Co! Each hay bail is carefully packaged & boxed to protect the hay from getting soaked in the rain. If you want good quality, healthy & consistent hay from a USA family farm, this is the hay you want. They take the growing of hay seriously and your fur babies will reap the rewards of the farm's good efforts. Grandpa's Best is a win-win for your for babies health & quality of life. p.s. A word of caution about hays: NEVER buy any hay- hay treats unless they are USA grown! If the company doesn't state what country the hay is grown in, then don't buy it! Always check with your USA growets to ensure they don't use sprays on their hays either, because some of them do.

Excellent Hay
I have subscribed to regular 10lb deliveries of this hay (orchard grass) for about 4 years now. It always arrives fresh, green, tender and sweet smelling and fluffs up really nicely! Never any moisture or mold. The stems are all soft and tender, different from other varieties of hay (e.g. Timothy) which naturally include some thicker stems. My guinea pigs popcorn when I refill it and eat it up! I live in Hawaii, and I have not been able to find better quality hay anywhere for any price. I also appreciate the fact that such a large amount of hay can be stored so nicely and neatly. Some reviewers have noted dust--I have observed that some bags are a little dustier than others, but on the whole, the dust level is quite low.

Don’t trust the bad reviews, try it for yourself!
So I was nervous to buy this hay after reading lots of mixed reviews, but I went with my gut and ordered the 10 LB bag of orchard grass and I’m glad I did! So my first impression was really good, despite not having my own twistie tie ... my bag came open, but oh well. Anyway, the hay smelled amazing! It looked great, it was nice and green with a few brown pieces here and there (to be expected)! So now we get to the plastic bands that keep the bale compressed...I’ve read a few reviews where they say they’re so hard to cut them off. Not true. I’m not sure what they’re using to cut them, maybe a steak knife? But I got a trusty pocket knife and with just a little pressure, just like in the video, they came right apart! Now for the part that I’ve hear so much about, the flakes ... so I ripped off a layer of hay for my Guinea pigs, (after watching the video of course because I now know what I am doing), I put the flake right into my Guinea pigs hay feeder and use my hands to fluff and pull it apart. It was SO EASY. And the best part?? The hay pieces are long! And my Guinea pigs love it!! I believe they are still sitting there eating more hay as I write this, even though I gave it to them a good half hour ago. I absolutely despised buying the BOX of hay that is sold on amazon as well. It was SO messy. Everytime I opened up the box to feed my pigs, hay was all over my carpet. And I don’t have a room big enough for me to store a garbage bag of hay like I’ve seen other people do ... plus that looks incredibly tacky. Long story short, I’m ecstatic that I found a company to make a bale of hay on Amazon because it had saved me a lot of messes and a lot of time!

Money well spent compared to pet store prices.
Hay seems like it’s from last year. Quite a few yellow ones in there but hay smells really good. It’s very compressed but dry so no mold or bad smell but I wonder how they make it this way? You have to fluff it up. Guniea pigs like it and it is soft enough to use for bedding too since it’s practically the same price as paper bedding ...and they sure prefer hay than paper bedding making lots of little cute jumps .... so overall pleased with this. Second time we order but I’m a little perplexed as to if it’s very good hay and from which season / cut. Having grown up with horses I’m used to hay coming In bales but this is a whole new level of compressed. Pigs prefer Timothy hay but I mix plus they get pellets ( more if hay is less nutritions and less if it’s really good. ) hard to tell though ... Done with my rant. Worth the money I would say ( compared to what’s out there cause prices are insane. Need to find a farmer and by a big bale and be done. Worst is pet store where hay is all fluffed up and you pay $10 for 1/10 of this bale. I’m not joking - do the math;))
