It Slices! It Dices! But wait, there's more...
No this is not a plug for Ron Popeil and his famous Chop-O-Matic of television legend, that entertained us in the '50s. But I have to say that this little Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Paring Knife will live up to most of your slicing and dicing needs. It's a handy addition to any kitchen, and is a true kitchen bargain.Purchased my first one of these a few years ago as an impulse buy, as it had been recommended by a friend who knew what she was doing in the kitchen, and had bought one herself for light general kitchen slicing. I never expected it to last for the price, but it did, and it's become a favorite even though I have other kitchen knives that cost far more. These knives are very sharp, and are probably the best paring knives that I've had. They're designed in Switzerland by Kuhn Rikon, and have Japanese carbon steel blades, which are excellent for being sharp and staying that way. If you're so inclined you can use the green for vegetables, the red for meats and such, and the yellow for fruits. My first one, over two years old, shows very little wear on the non-stick color coating, and foods release from the blade easily. For those of us who store out casual kitchenware in drawers, the plastic sheaths protect the blades and keep them sharp. And according to Kuhn Rikon, "putting your knives in the dishwasher is safe, but washing them by hand will extend the life of your knives over time."But no matter who makes a knife or how well they may be treated, all knives are will need sharpening at some point. From personal experience, the Kuhn Rikon Mini-Pro Knife Sharpener handles that task very well, and it sharpens German and Japanese steel blades as well as nonstick coated blades. Just don't use it on serrated or ceramic blades. In short, these Kuhn Rikon Colori Paring Knives are a good 5-star product, and an excellent value for the money. But let me close with the famous words from those infomercials for the Chop-O-Matic hand food processor from the '50s. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to show you the greatest kitchen appliance ever made... All your onions chopped to perfection without shedding a single tear."

Wonderful pairing knife, works on all sorts of kitchen ingredients!
I love this brand of knives! I have 6 different types, as well as the pie/cake cutters, can opener, and peeler! I seriously love how well-made Kuhn Rikon products are (and I love that they all come in red!).I originally bought my first knife based on reviews of how well they cut EVERYTHING! And it's true, they work really well. I have some very expensive knives in my collection, and these work just as well. And they are red (I love having red in my kitchen!). I've used this knife on nearly everything I have to cut in the kitchen that is size-appropriate, and have been happy with the results. My first knife I've had for nearly 6 years, and it is still working amazingly well. I would probably say it's starting to dull a little bit, but I use that knife a lot, so that's not really a surprise. For example, I used to be able to gently set the blade on a tomato, and it would start slicing through like a hot knife on butter--now, I have to apply a little pressure for it to start cutting through the tomato. So really, they still work really well after all this time. I'm slowly starting to replace my other knives with these... the only thing slowing my full replacement is that not all the knives I want are in red yet (no matter, I'll just wait :) ).If you are looking for a sharp, stylish knife that won't break the bank, please look into this knife, and others that are in the Kuhn Rikon inventory. I haven't been disappointed by one yet.

Great Paring Knife
I got one of these for my girlfriend as a housewarming gift.I have one of their bread knives and liked the colors they come in. She needed a paring knife, and purple is her fav color, so this was a perfect match. The blade is super sharp out of the package. The case fits a bit snug, and is a bit confusing which way the blade goes in. It fits either way. These are a great starter knife, or would be great to take camping or use on a picnic since the cover fits so well. Very secure to throw in a box, basket, or bag.The blade also sharpens really easily, and seems to hold an edge. The biggest downside to me is the handle. Cheap and small feeling. I have big hands, and it is not ideal for me. Also it could become slippery. It may not be professional quality, but it is better than many more expensive knives I have used.

Excellent knife for the money
I Bought this knife (Kuhn Rikon non-stick paring) from "The Kitchen Cabinet" and it arrived the day before the earliest estimated delivery date... so that was a good start.First thing I did to quickly test the sharpness of the knife was to try slicing some paper.Straight 'out of the box' (no box, just a small flimsy cellophane 'bag') this knife is surprisingly sharp! It cuts A4 copy paper, glossy, and newspaper like a razor. Will it shave the hairs off your arm??? YES! but only with a little pressure and resultant shaving rash! feels like a disposable razor does after a full face shave. So, out of the box, this knife is not quite razor sharp, but is as close as you will get for this price (~£6.50 posted).the blade seems to lose its edge quite quickly considering its a carbon steel blade, but I did cut a lot of paper before it lost its shave-sharp edge.Fruit and Veg? after spending way too long cutting paper, I tried the knife for its intended purpose. The knife is comfortable in most grips...nice and lightweight and goes through fruit and veg like a hot knife thro.... well you get the idea, its sharp.I managed to slice a grape into 16 wafer thin slices without difficulty (I have zero knife/chef skills)... even after dulling the blade on paper. The knife needs a fair bit of pressure to push-cut a rubbery banana skin BUT with a slight slicing or sawing action its back to the butter situation....cuts great.Chopping works pretty well, but with the ~4inch blade you probably not want to chop larger veg, or attempt large batches of chopping - You would get tired quickly - but that's not what this knife is for.If I had one small gripe with this knife it would be the fact that the sheath does come off a little too easily in my opinion; Although, most knives in this price range don't even come with a sheath so the Kuhn Rikon still (just) gets 5 stars from me.All in all, this is a great little parer/utility/all-rounder for a very good price... if it had a more secure sheath (even if it cost a little more) it would be pretty much perfect.

Purple?

I agree with the first reviewer
I concur with everything said by the first reviewer.I only have one bad mark, I bought a similar red knife at the same time and where the blade meets the handle is a different shape, slightly more protective of the knuckles.I love the way the food just slides off the blade.THE BLADE IS VERY SHARP and the I took the hint of another reviewer and cut across the bottom of the sealed pack with scissors and shook the knife out still in its sheath. The sheath by the way is excellent quality and should be long lasting.
