Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew: Revised and Updated

Highly recommend this book for anyone who wonders what an autistic child is thinking
My sister's grandson is autistic and I thought this book would be helpful to her since she cares for him, three days a week. I also bought a copy of it for me because I have more free time to read, and I can share my newfound knowledge with her.I found it easiest to immediately read the introduction to each chapter, which is in bold type. In each introduction, the authore speaks as an autistic child and explains how she feels in certain settings. The following chapter explains, in non-professional language, the reasons why the child reacts as she does. If one only has time to read those introductions, it is helpful. For me, it peaked my curiosity to go back and read those chapters so I could learn more about the mystery of autism. In my opinion, this book is well-written and filled with information that is easy to read and informative, without gettting too technical. I'd recommend it for any parent or relative of a child with autism, or a teacher, who is not trained in Special Education, who has an autistic child in his classroom. It gave me new understanding of what was before a mystery to me: the autistic child. I have found it quite enlightening. The author, a mother of an autistic child, has updated this book three times as research on autism has uncovered more about autism.

New outlook on autism
This book gave me great insight & guidance into what’s going on in my grandson’s mind and the struggles he faces. I now look for ways to help him grow rather than feel sorry for him.

Enlightening information for those new to the subject
It is an aggressive read. It approaches the subject from a defensive position that takes a bit to adapt to. There are a number of insights and revelations that many people will benefit from. Add this to your research so you can become more informed on "A"tism and what it means in the subject's life.

Book Study
I am reading this for a book study and it's a wonderful read. Very insightful and I love the focus on the child and not the "adults" world view of ASD.
