Great at grinding spices
I will write a review based on the function I use it and that is basically to grind whole species (black and white pepper, cumin, caraway, coriander seeds, dill seeds, fennel, etc) I'm a sausage maker and at this, the mill does a great job. The coarseness can be adjusted from fine to coarse, however it is hard to reduce from coarse to fine on the fly because the spice will not allow the auger to be set tighter without emptying it first. Before this mill I burned out two kitchenaid coffee grinders and the spices never grinded evenly. With this mill the spices result in a more consistent size. About the use of this mill for cereals such as wheat, rice, etc, I will guess the output will be too small for the need of many users. At grinding species is ok since species are used at small quantities even in very large batches, but if you need to grind several pounds of flour probably this hand powered mill is not for you and maybe you should take a look at another model of the same vendor with a motor option. I cannot rate durability at least for now but some parts could have been made of more durable material such as a plastic washer between the auger and the handle. Even when it looks made of stainless steel this mill is made mostly of brushed aluminum, but the inner parts of the mill are stainless steel. I think you get a decent product for the price.Update: I found the mill cannot grind annatto seeds. Even though the annatto seed appears to be a dry seed and not oily, but after grinding a few it forms a hard dry paste around the auger and that's it, the mill gets clogged and no more seeds can go down the grinding path.Update: As you grind, the handle movement tightens the bolt that holds the handle and it results in a gradually finer grinding and it ends on the auger being completely tight and no allowing the product to grind at all. I hope this can be solved by installing a washer. I will keep you updated

A very handy kitchen tool
The media could not be loaded. I bought this mill after I heard a talk given by Sue Becker. It is slower than an electric mill but is worth the money if you are wanting to try the wonders of fresh milled flour before diving in and buying all of the expensive equipment. It produces a wonderful flour that I use to make fresh bread, cookies, pie crusts etc. it also gives a great workout. My arms are toned from using this just about every morning. It is easy to clean and very well made. I am a believer in fresh milled flour now after using this for two weeks. My family has seen health improvements already and I’ll never go back to eating store bought junk made with dead flour.

Great for the price
I have had this mill since July 2012, and have used it probably 30 times. Mostly for wheat berries, which it does a great job turning into flour. This mill is not going to make a super fine flour, but it will make a good flour. I have also used it with rolled oats, sugar (to make powdered sugar) and blanched almonds. It does an okay job on these, but you have to use the handle end on a spoon to make sure everything gets pushed down into the grinding plate. Also, I found I had to chop the almonds up first in a chopper, and then put them in the hopper. Some items you have to manipulate more than the grain berries, since they have a lighter consistency, they might need help getting fed. Easy to clean, and store, and my kids love to help me turn the handle and this makes it fun. Nice alternative when you don't know if you want to spend the money on a big electrical grain mill, or you don't have room to store something like one of those. Also, the piece that connects to the grain mill handle and plate is plastic, and we thought this would be a problem, but so far it has held up nicely. I purchased wheat berries by the case from BRM, and then store them in our deep freeze and get them out when I need to grind more flour. My next venture is to try the sprouted grains another reviewer had mentioned. Overall this is a good buy. The brown portion of the hopper removes from unit, and all part disassemble easily for cleanup. One more tip-don't bother trying to run your flour through a second time to try to get it finer, it won't work, and you'll just have to pour it all back out.

Great grain mill
The media could not be loaded. Me and my family love Ezekiel bread for its digestive friendly components and great taste . It was becoming expensive to buy 3 bags a week so I figured I could try and make my own . The first thing I had to do was find a grain mill . I didn’t want an electric one due to bill . I looked around and came across this one through ( “Rose Homestead”) On YouTube . I absolutely love this one . It was super easy to set up. I love that it’s not plastic or aluminum material but stainless steel . You can adjust the crank tighter get a really fine flour or Loose to get a more gritty flour . It’s not heavy at all . Its grind consistency is smooth I am just cranking away !

A sturdy, reliable grinder.
The perfect grinder for 1 or two cups of home-ground flours at a time. I use mine primarily for grinding barley and mustard seed. The device does require a bit of patience and elbow grease. Not difficult to turn, but you will have to crank and crank and crank to process 1/2 cup of mustard in about 30 minutes. However, the results are amazing...a very fine, even flour that fits well into any recipe, which is something you won't get from an electric grinder no matter how long you run it. We can now make our own barley flour to use as a delicious additive to baked goods, or to make our own mustard which is out of this world. Also handy for making a great rice, wheat, or corn flour from ground popcorn. Clean up is a breeze. When re-assembling, make sure the grinding head is all the way back in and the thumbscrew on the handle is on tight. This will ensure a very find, floury grind.

Good mill
I’m gonna eventually get an electric one. But this one works great if you’re only milling a little bit.
