Steam Engine D 5 Kit

This is a great way to teach young people how steam engines work with simplicity.The engine arrived on time and all pieces were accounted for. (There are two items in the kit left over that I could not identify).The engine worked well after making a few adjustments to the piston rod to the flywheel. For boiler fire I used heat tablets (for small camp stoves) which worked perfectly. Probably best to mount the base on a piece of plywood as this thing runs vigorously with a full head of steam. The vibrations cause it to move around as it runs. I am throughly satisfied with my new steam engine. Thanks

Childhood flashback. I had one of these 50 yrs ago and it’s long gone. Ordered this one because I remember it as a cool model. This model comes from Germany, it took about 3 weeks to arrive. Assembled without any surprises. Ordered some of the solid fuel along with it. Runs great. I mounted it to a piece of plywood to keep it stable and less vibrations. I don’t remember there being a sight glass on the tank of my model I had as a kid. That’s a great improvement! Maybe I won’t blow the tank out of this one! I’ll keep it.

My six year old son and I spent hours and hours over a period of three days and could not complete assembly. When I bought this, I had no idea of what I was signing up for. The screws are so tiny; if you have adult hands (and are not a jeweler with a special set of tools and an eyepiece) you will face many hours of frustration. The bolts are likewise miniscule. The instructions are written in a rough English translation from the original German. The washers vary in size without explanation, and this I think is a cause of some risk as hot steam leaks or not. I tried to explain to my disappointed son that , alas, we were giving up on this! I give this a very poor rating, despite the other reviews. Must be written by jewelers!

I purchased this as a gift for my fiancé as he had mentioned having one as a boy and how much he like it. There were a few challenges putting it together but all in all it went together well and ran, much to his and my 3 1/2 yr old Grandson and Son in Laws delight.This was a super fun and different gift to give to someone hard to buy for.One note though, I was under the impression that the kit came with fuel but it did not. We simply used BBQ starter cubes instead.

Cool little toy but assembly is ridiculously difficult. Tiny screws and washers in places almost impossible to reach.

Provides ample components to describe a steam engine. Worked well as a science experiment with a meaningful show and tell component. A bit expensive but hey, she now knows what a piston, push rod, and fly wheel are.

Shipped with broken/missing parts. As this was a gift for my Dad, I was not impressed - he had to pay an extra ~$40 to get everything to where it should have been to begin with. Would not buy again.
