Q: When pushing the switch, is one position "off" and the other "on", or does the button simply switch "state" (when on->off, when off->on)?

I am not entirely sure how you think this switch works... They switch just like a normal light switch, when you press the lower part of the switch it goes down and the light comes on when you press the upper part of the button the light switches off. This model is actually for 2 separate lights. We have been really impressed with ours and will certainly buy again.

Q: How do i connect the receiver to the wall switch? (to replace the wall switch completely)

To place the receiver inside the switch housing you have to have a neutral cable in the housing which is not always the case. If you have a neutral then connect the permanent live and neutral to the input pair of the receiver and the switched live and neutral to the output pair of the receiver. You can then put the wireless switch anywhere you want and fit a blanking plate over the original switch.

It’s quiet enough no louder than a normal light switch
