Yes there's a hum and it's noticeable. Just got mine today and I'm returning it because the fan is louder than my computers fan.

Q: Will it keep frozen meals frozen? Will frozen meals fit?

Not really, it gets nice and cold. It would keep them very cold but not completely frozen.

Q: can this unit be plugged in all the time or does it have to be periodically unplugged?

I have mine plugged in all the time at work.
